New Year's Eve in Marroco

T

OCTOBER 2025

here are places that feel made for endings and beginnings.

Morocco is one of them.

Maybe it’s the desert. Maybe it’s the colours, the chaos, the long roads crossing mountains and endless landscapes. Or perhaps it’s simply because Morocco never feels ordinary. Even the smallest moments there seem cinematic somehow.

I first travelled through Morocco many years ago, and what stayed with me most was not only the beauty of the country, but the atmosphere of movement. The feeling that every day brings a completely different landscape, a different rhythm, a different world.

One morning you are drinking mint tea inside an old riad in Marrakech. By afternoon, you are crossing the Atlas Mountains. And then suddenly, by sunset, you are watching dunes appear on the horizon while the air becomes completely silent.

That contrast is what makes travelling through Morocco so addictive.

And experiencing New Year’s Eve there makes it even more special.

While most New Year celebrations revolve around crowds, noise and countdowns, Morocco offers something very different. The celebration becomes less about parties and more about atmosphere. About where you are. About who you are with. About the strange feeling of ending a year somewhere completely outside your normal reality.

Spending New Year near the Sahara changes your perception of time a little.

The desert has that effect.

At night, temperatures drop, the sky becomes impossibly clear and silence takes over everything around you. Away from cities and distractions, the experience feels strangely grounding.

Simple things suddenly become memorable.

A fire in the middle of the desert.
Traditional music echoing between tents.
Dinner under the stars.
The cold air after sunset.
The feeling of waking up on the first morning of a new year surrounded by dunes instead of buildings.

And then there is Morocco itself.

The energy of Marrakech.
The colours of the souks.
The mountain roads through the Atlas.
Ancient kasbahs appearing between palm groves.
Long dinners, strong mint tea and conversations that stretch late into the night.

Morocco constantly stimulates the senses.

But at the same time, it also invites slowness.

Perhaps that is why it feels like such a powerful place to begin a new year.

Because travelling there reminds you how large and varied the world still is.

And maybe that is one of the best feelings you can carry into a new year.

" ... it feels like such a powerfull place to begin the New Year"
